Who goes first in Qwixx?

Gamewright English Rules of Play

Qwixx game cover, Gamewright edition

The first player to roll a 6 (on any of the six dice, during ordinary play) takes on the role of "active player" for that roll; whoever becomes active player first effectively starts the game, since play only proceeds once someone rolls a 6.

Rule details

After a round, the player to the left of the current active player becomes the new active player and re-rolls all six dice; play does not return to needing another 6 once the game is underway.

Our interpretation

The rulebook's "How to Play" section states the first-6-roller becomes active player without describing a group roll-off procedure; this site reports that sentence as printed rather than inferring an alternate setup method.

If there’s a tie

The rulebook doesn’t say. If you need a tie-break, pick a player at random.
