Who goes first in Tokaido?

Funforge English original edition

Randomly line up the Traveler pieces at the starting inn in Kyoto. The Traveler farthest behind on the route moves first.

If your rules call for a random choice, use the player picker.

Rule details

The Traveler farthest behind takes each turn; a player can therefore take consecutive turns.

With two players, add a neutral Traveler to the random starting lineup. When that Traveler is last, the player whose own Traveler is in front moves it.

Choose Traveler tiles before determining the starting order.

If there’s a tie

The rulebook doesn’t say. If you need a tie-break, pick a player at random.
