There is no first player: everyone chooses a card face down at the same time. After the reveal, the player who played the lowest card places it first, then the next lowest, and so on.
If your rules call for a random choice, use the player picker.
Rule details
This reveal-and-place step repeats ten times per round, so placement order is set anew by card values every turn.
Cards are only revealed once every player has put a card face down.
If there’s a tie
The rulebook doesn’t say. If you need a tie-break, pick a player at random.
