Who goes first in Upwords?

Milton Bradley English instructions, 4312 (1988/1997)

Each player draws one letter tile. Whoever draws the tile nearest to the letter A plays first, then play proceeds to the left.

Return the drawn tiles to the pile and mix them before drawing your seven.
