Who goes first in Spectacular?

Rule details

The rules ask you to choose a coordinator who checks that everyone has finished a phase and announces the next one. They do not give the coordinator priority when choosing or placing components.

The three phases are choosing components, building your reserve, and preparing the next turn. The numbered-board exception applies to component selection; it does not turn all phases into individual turns.

Setup gives each player a random player board and supply board. Before play, each player may swap one starting animal tile with one from their personal set and reroll any of their personal-set dice once; these options do not select a starter.

Supply boards pass clockwise after each turn, including after the eighth and final turn of round one. If sequential selection is needed again, use the numbers on the boards currently held, not a permanent seating order.

This answer covers ordinary multiplayer play. The manual has separate solo setup and a five-step solo turn on pages 10–12; it does not use a multiplayer starter.
