- CanastaPlayers draw cards; the highest card chooses a seat and plays first in the first deal. The player to that player’s right deals the first hand.
- Crazy EightsThe player to the dealer’s left plays first, then play continues around the table.
- CribbageBoth players cut the deck; the lower card deals the first hand. The non-dealer plays the first card. In later games, the loser of the previous game deals first.
- Egyptian Rat ScrewThe player to the left of the dealer plays the first card, then play continues around the table.
- EuchrePlayers draw cards; the lowest card deals first. The player to the dealer’s left decides on trump first and makes the opening lead. If that player’s partner is playing alone, the player across from the dealer leads.
- Gin RummyEach player takes a card from the spread deck; the higher card chooses a seat and deals. The player who did not deal starts. In later games, the winner of the previous game deals.
- Go FishDeal one card face up to each player; the lowest card deals. The player to the left of the dealer goes first.
- HeartsWhoever holds the 2 of clubs after the pass leads first. In a three-player game, the page says the 3 of clubs is led instead.
- Old MaidAny player deals. The player on the dealer’s left goes first by drawing a card from the dealer’s hand.
- PitchThe player on the dealer’s left bids first. The highest bidder, called the pitcher, leads the first card, and its suit becomes trump.
- RummyPlay begins with the player to the left of the dealer. With two players, the winner of each hand deals the next; with more, the deal passes to the left.
- SlapjackThe player on the dealer’s left turns up the first card, then play continues to the left.
- SpadesThe first dealer is chosen by a draw for high card. The player on the dealer’s left starts the bidding and makes the opening lead.
- SpoonsThe dealer starts: they take a card from the deck, then pass one card face down to the left. Everyone then passes to the left at the same time.
- War (card game)Nobody goes first: both players turn up a card at the same time. Anyone may deal.
- WhistThe player on the dealer’s left leads first and may play any card. Play then moves clockwise.
